The number of people taking out car insurance for the Kia Soul may increase after the model won recognition in a product design competition. It was selected for an honourable mention in the 2009 red dot awards held in Germany. The Soul is the first ever Korean car to receive such an accolade and was up against 3,230 entries from 49 different counties across 17 categories. Paul Philpott, managing director with the winning manufacturer, said: "The Kia Soul defies conventions and offers buyers a new freedom in style, a new shape and new power of expression." Meanwhile, chief design officer Peter Schreyer expressed delight at achieving the "prestigious recognition" in the red dot awards. Kia described the event as the biggest annual design competition in the world. Earlier this month, the Soul Burner was named Best New Model 2009 by Fast Car magazine.
