Car insurance: Learning changes 'could aid safety'
Wednesday, 12 March 2008
Safety staff in Lancashire have said that a government plan to review the learner driver process should improve road conditions.
Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety Official Linda Sanderson stated that while the changes should have already been put in place it is important that they are well considered, reports the Lancashire Telegraph.
"I am disappointed the consultation hasn't started but we want them to get it right. In the mean time we will be looking at anything we can do to instigate any changes," she commented.
She added that the organisation's own safety campaign - Wasted Lives - has generated a large level of interest.
The Department for Transport announced that the consultation will begin shortly but that it is essential the relevant groundwork is undertaken first.
Yesterday it was revealed by York council that the number of people killed or seriously injured on the city's roads has dropped because of safety campaigns.
Drivers caught behaving erratically may find that their car insurance premiums are negatively impacted upon.
