Leaf car to try for record

Tuesday, 26 June 2012

The Leaf electric car from Nissan is going to be having a go at a world record, the company says.

The record it will set if successful will be for covering a mile faster than any car has before while reversing – not something we recommend car insurance holders attempt under any circumstances!

The attempt is due to take place within the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which kicks into gear later this week and runs until the beginning of July.

The man behind the wheel for the record attempt will be Terry Grant, a stunt driver.

He said the attempt was set to be a challenge. "I'd prefer to do it on a nice straight and level strip of tarmac rather than on Lord March's drive. The hill not only climbs, but is also full of twists, turns and obstacles," he said. The location of the attempt will be the Goodwood hillclimb, a 1.16-mile long track.

Other cars that are part of the Nissan range include the Nissan Juke and the Nissan Micra.
