Car insurance: New safety scheme begins in Leeds

Monday, 07 July 2008

Police in Leeds have said that children have been enlisted in the bid to create a new road safety initiative, which could have a positive impact on people's car insurance premiums.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPC) linked with pupils at Hovingham Primary School in order to teach drivers about improved techniques behind the wheel.

During the initiative that took place on July 4th, Speed Indicator Devices were used by those present on Hovingham Avenue to see how fast drivers are travelling.

Inspector Nik Adams from Gipton and Harehills NPC asserted that if more motorists think about the consequences of their actions then the day will have been a success.

"We hope to raise the awareness of road users and the community of the importance of driving carefully and within the speed limits," the force member commented before it occurred.

Richmond children have also got involved in a similar scheme, aided by the Richmond Community Safety Partnership and North Yorkshire county council.
