Car insurance customers obey limits without speed cameras

Those searching for cheap car insurance may be interested to learn motorists in Oxfordshire continued to obey speed limits despite cameras being switched off.

On August 1st Oxfordshire County Council controversially switched off speed cameras across the county in a bid to save council funds, raising questions over whether motorists would adhere to speed limits without the chance of being caught speeding.

Local paper the Banbury Cake reported their investigation at two locations on Monday August 2nd discovered only 15 drivers out of 840 exceeded the 30mph limit.

According to the paper none of the speeding drivers would have incurred penalties if the speed cameras had been active as none exceeded 35mph. Enforcement of speeding legislation begins once a driver goes 5mph or more over the limit.

Speaking to the Banbury Cake, chief inspector for Thames Valley Police, Gill Wooton, said: "The majority of drivers do stick to the speed limit for the road they are travelling on."

Other counties, including neighbouring Buckinghamshire, are considering following Oxfordshire's lead and turning off their speed cameras, reported the Daily Mail.
