Travel insurance: Long-haul holidays offer best value

Thursday, 04 March 2010

Holidaymakers who shop around for cheap travel insurance may also like to get the most out of their break by jetting off to a long-haul destination.

Turkey and Egypt are favourite locations with Brits seeking value from a holiday abroad. Sales in the two countries are up 63 per cent and 47 per cent respectively, according to new research from On the Beach.

Long-haul destinations are increasingly offering good value for money - not only because of the weak sterling but also due to how much further money can stretch in many developing nations, according to ABTA - The Travel Association.
Frances Tuke, spokesperson for Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), said: "In a lot of markets we've seen sterling not performing very well over the last few years, but pretty much every destination is good for us because the quality [and] the price of living is cheaper."

Tour Operators Kuoni recently named Egypt as one of their top ten long-haul destinations for 2010, along with the Maldives, Thailand, Egypt, Sri Lanka and Malaysia.

"All of those destinations are much cheaper when it comes to spending over there," noted Ms Tuke.
