Look after the car in winter

Friday, 16 December 2011

Drivers who are determined to motor on throughout the potentially treacherous conditions this winter have been advised to check the small print on their policy, as well as ensuring that they prepare the car for the cold period.

Earlier this week, the Met Office warned that Britain was to be hit by further storms, after wind, rain and snow battered parts of the country last week.

Moneysupermarket said that drivers should ensure their policy has breakdown cover, to be certain that they will not be stuck in the middle of nowhere if the worst should happen.

It also said that drivers can cut the risk of car insurance claims by carrying safety equipment such as ice scrapers, a shovel and additional warm clothing, in case they get stuck.

Pete Harrison, insurance expert at MoneySupermarket.com said: "Motorists should ready themselves and their vehicles for ice and snow before taking to the roads, as well as thinking ahead about the increased risk of breakdowns and accidents caused by the hazardous conditions."
