Car insurance customers beware: M1 is worst road in the UK
Wednesday, 20 October 2010
Car insurance customers should be cautious when driving on the M1, as experts have named it the worst road in Britain.
TV chef James Martin tested roads throughout Britain in a specially adapted car for Mobil 1 and found that the stretch of the M1 in Sheffield is the worst to drive along.
It was closely followed by Spaghetti Junction in Birmingham and the M8 from Glasgow to Edinburgh.
According to Martin, the A74 from Lanarkshire to Kirkton was found to be the bumpiest and noisiest road in Britain.
The A82 from Glasgow to Fort William was voted the best stretch of motorway.
Martin described the A82 as "outstanding", adding: "The variety of road, the difference in bends, inclines and dramatic changing scenery from loch to valley keeps the driver guessing at every corner."
The chef, who hosts BBC's Saturday Kitchen, tested out roads across the UK over a week in July.
