M25 home to 13 of top 20 jams

Wednesday, 07 December 2011

The M25 was home to 13 of the top 20 longest motorway jams in October, according to new figures.

TomTom revealed that budget car insurance policyholders were more likely to be stuck on this road in a long jam than any other, with the stretch between junction 17 and junction 9 accounting for five of the biggest delays.

It was found that the longest single queue was on October 28th between junctions 8 and 16, with traffic piling up for 26.5 miles.

The M11 was home to the longest time delay, with traffic between Stansted Airport and Littlebury on October 28th being delayed for nearly six hours after a five-vehicle crash which also held up 23 Miss World finalists.

Earlier this morning (November 7th) the M5 in Somerset reopened after a horrific 34-vehicle pile-up on Friday night at junction 25.

Over 50 people were injured in the collision, with seven people dying.
