Making things 'really modern' at home

Wednesday, 19 September 2012

Sofa Design's Mike Hackworthy, a designer and partner, has been discussing a way to get things looking "really modern" at home.

And it seems that home insurance holders wanting this style may wish to incorporate some subtle paint or wallpaper colours.

To achieve what Hackworthy calls "a really modern look", curtains as well as sofas should be in textile types that use "block colour[s]". This is then contrasted against walls which use more "muted" shades.

Meanwhile, the look could be enhanced with the addition of laminate or wood floors, which in addition might lend a sense of spaciousness; something that works well in less sizeable spaces.

Mr Hackworthy had been asked about alternate choices aside from conventional sofas.

"Fashion is always a good influencer of interiors and this is where some really unique styles come from in terms of shape, material and colour," he explained.

"A really unique statement piece can suit any home - a contemporary style could work really well in a period home if, for example, the colour or texture ties in with the rest of the decor to blend the differences."

The designer recently highlighted the colour grey as being popular for sofas at present.
