Man arrested for having 10 passengers
Thursday, 26 January 2012
A Hungarian man was arrested in Belgrave after he was found to be driving his car with ten passengers.
Zoltan Lakatos was banned from driving and fined £1,300 after he was found to have packed his Audi A4 with 11 people, including himself, with six of his passengers children.
Four of the children were being transported in the boot of the car by the driver, who was also charged with having no car insurance. The passengers inside the vehicle included another young child, and an infant aged just nine months old.
This Is Leicestershire reports that Prosecutor Ian Johnson told the court: "There were 11 people in that vehicle – and to add insult to injury it was not covered by any form of insurance."
At the end of last year, MoneySupermarket found that there are an estimated 1.4 million drivers on British roads who do not have any insurance.
