Car insurance: Speeding drivers targeted

Thursday, 10 July 2008

Car insurance policy holders in the Matlock area of Derbyshire have been informed that local police officers are on the look-out for speeding drivers.

Temporary speed cameras have been set in place to this end along the A632 and the A6 in Cromford and they will be used to catch anyone pressing to heavy on the accelerator, the Matlock Mercury reports.

Ensuring the safety of road users is the principal motivation behind Derbyshire Police's crackdown and the plans might well reduce the number accidents and car insurance claims in the area.

In fact, according to official police statistics, there has been a 40 per cent reduction over the past 14 years in the number accidents that cause deaths or serious injury along the roads that have been equipped with speed cameras in Matlock.

A similar initiative to crackdown on overzealous drivers was launched the Grampian area of Scotland, the Press and Journal reported recently.
