Travel insurance: Medical mishaps cost travellers dear

Holidays are the highlight of some people's year, but even with the best planning in the world sometimes things go wrong.

Travel insurance can help in these situations where the most frequent hitches are the result of medical or cancellation costs, according to one insurance company.

It is important to check you have correct cover because many people assume mistakenly that their European health insurance card will be enough.

Last week's figures from the Financial Ombudsman Service show that the number of disputed travel insurance claims rose again in the UK for September.
