Car insurance: A messy motor 'could lead to an accident'

Tuesday, 04 August 2009

Drivers with a messy vehicle could be jeopardising their budget car insurance, if the comments of one automotive group are anything to go by.

The Institute of Advanced Motorists has urged people to keep the inside of their autos clean.

It pointed out something like a discarded drinks can could roll under the brake pedal, putting the occupants of the vehicle in serious danger.

Chief examiner Peter Rodger stated: "A tidy and clean car reduces stress for all the passengers and so reduces the potential for in-car distractions."

This comes as the Highways Agency launches a campaign urging motorists to refrain from throwing litter out of their autos.

According to the government department, some 700,000 bags of rubbish are cleared from England's roads every year.

Meanwhile, drivers who do everything within their power to stay safe behind the wheel may find they are able to build up a healthy no-claims discount on their car insurance policy.
