Travel insurance: No such thing as a free flight

Monday, 20 November 2006

Aeroplane flight offers often seem too good to be true and the Advertising Standards Authority has just disciplined Ryanair over its misleading ads.

A TV ad by Ryanair had laid claim to there being zero fare flights available but this isn't true because customers would still have to pay for taxes and charges.

Therefore far from being free, the tickets actually cost around £21.70.

Matt Wilson, spokesperson for the Advertising Standards Authority, warns that: "It doesn’t have to include taxes and charges as standard as long as the headline price is not misleading or in breach of the technical clause."

However often cheaper airlines are convenient because you can book online while simultaneously getting your all-important cheap travel insurance online.

Ryanair just announced that its nine millionth customer has passed through London Luton airport and to celebrate the company is giving away flights for just nine pence.

Again, taxes and other charges will have to be paid on top of the nine pence.
