Car insurance: Inquiry into camera 'misuse'
Wednesday, 09 April 2008
A number of speeding charges have been dropped after an inquiry begun into the alleged misuse of a speed camera in Kent.
The police in the county also revealed that a member of the force has been suspended in connection with the incident, that centres on a mobile camera, reports the BBC.
Additionally, the force will examine how the device was used and possibly altered during the monitoring of the road.
Such measures are typical of such an investigation, as spokeswoman at Kent police confirmed.
"This is standard practice while an inquiry is conducted. It is a procedural issue that relates to the use of equipment," she commented.
But speed restrictions will still be used while the inquiry takes place, the police added, something that could impact upon drivers' motor insurance premiums.
In related news, Kent & Medway Safety Camera Partnership this week said that it will release details as to why speed cameras are placed in particular areas.
