Car insurance: Mock-up focuses on safety

Friday, 15 February 2008

A mock-up car accident was recently staged in Peterborough as the local emergency services attempted to drill home the message of road safety.

During the event at Wisbech Grammar School, emergency services had to free two victims from a vehicle, reports the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

Organisers stated that this is what could happen if motorists drive irresponsibly, something that may also have a major impact upon car insurance premiums.

Spokesman for the campaign Jo Lazar told the paper that this was a strong message that people should take on board.

"It's a fact that more young females aged 17 to 19 are killed or seriously injured while travelling as passengers in cars than as drivers," he commented.

He added that there are "terrible dangers" to be faced on the roads by young people in the UK.

Blackpool council is another body to have recently focussed upon road safety and has placed the wreckage of a car at St Walburga's Road in the town as a reminder of the dangers on the roads, the Blackpool citizen said.
