Motor insurance customers in Northern Ireland are facing the most expensive fuel prices in the UK, a recent poll has discovered.

It has been found that people in NI are paying out £1.38 per each litre of petrol, according to the latest AA fuel price survey.

As well as this, the motoring organisation found that the average price that UK car insurance customers are paying for diesel and petrol has increased by five pence per litre during the last month.

Therefore, a 50 litre tank of diesel has jumped by £2.50 in two thirds of Britain's regions.

The price of petrol has now reached almost £1.33 per litre, with diesel now being charged at £1.34 a litre.

As a result, the UK has the 11th most expensive petrol in Europe, as well as the second highest diesel prices.

Yorkshire recorded the lowest fuel prices in the nation, with the county selling unleaded petrol at £1.32 per litre.
