Motor insurance holders have been warned this week after winter conditions covered large areas of the country in a blanket of ice and snow.

Britain's road users have been advised to drive with extreme care as they return to work this week, following a series of accidents across the UK that occurred as a result of the icy conditions.

Severe weather warnings have been put in place and people with car insurance have been told to proceed with caution because many roads pose potentially dangerous hazards.

A representative for the police has reported a number of incidents where jack-knifed lorries have led to collisions and blocked roads.

The weather also caused problems in East Sussex, where 39 schools have been closed in total.

In addition, a further 19 have been shut in Kent, alongside a handful of schools in Warwickshire and Yorkshire.

Train services have also been impacted by the big freeze, with Southeastern Railway admitting that cancellations and delays are very likely.
