Motor insurance: Government campaign 'a good one'

Monday, 15 October 2007

The government's Think! campaign, focussed on motorcyclists, has been met with support from the Motorcycle Action Group (MAG).

According to the organisation, the latest initiative will encourage motorcyclists to look at what they are doing on the roads in more detail, reports Londonbikers.com.

MAG cited figures from the Department for Transport that suggested 65 per cent of all accidents between bikers and cars occur at T-junctions, something that could have a negative impact on both car insurance and bike insurance premiums.

The general secretary at MAG Trevor Baird stated that motorists often overlook those on motorbikes despite highly-visible attire.

"The advice may seem rudimentary to experienced riders, but motorcycling is a constant learning curve. Remember - don't expect car drivers to see you no matter how visible you think you are," he commented.

Earlier this month, the Think! scheme was instigated by the government department after it announced that drivers are three-times more likely to die on rural roads than urban ones.
