Car insurance: Motorists have downsizing plans
Tuesday, 13 May 2008
A survey released by Motorpoint, a UK car supermarket group, has indicated that two-thirds of car owners will be downsizing with their next purchase.
The reason that many drivers taking part in the survey gave was the improved fuel economy that comes with a smaller vehicle.
Another main reason given was the slower depreciation that smaller cars benefit from in comparison to larger vehicles in the UK.
David Shelton, managing director of Motorpoint, said: "These figures show a potentially massive shift of over two thirds of the motoring population - about 20 million people - into smaller vehicles.
"It's clear that the benefits of a smaller car are becoming more important as a whole range of economic and environmental considerations start to bite."
Other factors that may influence vehicle buyers include car insurance and suitability.
