Car insurance: Motorists warned against drink-driving

Tuesday, 21 July 2009

A car insurance claim could be the least of a driver's problems if they take to the road while under the influence of alcohol, if the comments of one charity are anything to go by.

Road safety group Brake has urged motorists to think about the potential consequences of getting behind the wheel after a few glasses of wine or a couple of beers, ahead of this autumn's National Road Safety Week.

Spokesperson Katie Shephard commented: "Shockingly, one in six deaths on our roads is caused by drivers over the legal limit."

The organisation issued this statement after it was revealed AlcoSense Breathalysers would be sponsoring National Road Safety Week this year - which runs from November 23rd to 29th.

Motorists were also warned they should not assume they are fit to drive the morning after enjoying a few drinks.

People who are convicted of being in control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol may find they lose access to cheap car insurance.
