Car insurance: Motorists 'need to be vigilant when driving in Europe'

Thursday, 09 July 2009

Motorists planning on a driving holiday in Europe this summer should pay extra attention during the first few days on the road if they want to avoid an accident and subsequent car insurance claim, it has been suggested.

According to Backpackers Ultimate Guides, it will probably take a while for Brits to get used to being on the opposite side of the highway.

It urged people to be particularly careful when turning left and entering roundabouts as this can prove especially dangerous.

The publishing group claimed preparation is key when it comes to staying safe in a foreign country.

Managing editor Tim Uden advised: "Research the destination before travelling to make yourself aware of any local rules regarding parking and road tolls, as well as road rules and unfamiliar road signs."

In addition to this, people may want to check with their motor insurance provider to see if they benefit from comprehensive cover when driving outside the UK.
