Travel insurance: Comic Relief 'inspires budding mountaineers'

The number of people taking out travel insurance in order to climb Mount Kilimanjaro may increase following the Comic Relief event, it has been suggested.

According to, coverage of the trek undertaken by a number of celebrities appears to have sparked the nation's imagination.

The website said the fact Cheryl Cole took up the challenge seems to have had a particularly significant impact.

It revealed the number of people enquiring about heading to Tanzania to climb the mountain has increased 12-fold since the Comic Relief trek.

Spokeswoman Krissy Roe commented: "It's quite interesting how people have been inspired to try it themselves."

As well as Cheryl, the other celebrities who conquered Kilimanjaro included Gary Barlow from Take That and presenter Fearne Cotton.

People keen to try something similar may find taking out travel insurance is more important than ever, in case of an accident.
