'Muted colours' for kitchens

Wednesday, 12 September 2012

It seems that 'muted colours' are trending when it comes to kitchens – something home insurance holders thinking about a redesign might like to remember.

Kitchens that are glossy and bright aren't in anymore, according to Mid Century Kitchens' MD, Ian Thackeray.

And alongside muted shades, simplicity and 'clean lines' are also the current order of the day, it seems. Mr Thackeray has talked about "a somewhat Zen look and feel" in relation to these features.

Meanwhile, it seems that thoughts of the environment are also playing a part in trendsetting.

"The materials being used are environmentally sustainable such as ash and reclaimed wood," said Mr Thackeray.

"In addition it's very on trend to mix the modern with the old, repurposed furnishings are finding life anew, adding a sense of history and doing their part to lower landfills."

So called "mid century kitchens" – which reference history while keeping modern technology present – are trending.

"We find that more and more people are looking for ecological credentials. Where is the wood from? How is it made?" said the Freestanding Kitchen Company's Oliver Kearin of kitchens recently.
