Car insurance: New vehicle discounts 'getting bigger'

Friday, 14 November 2008

People who are concerned that the state of their old banger could lead to an accident - and subsequent car insurance claim - should be able to negotiate a good deal on a new vehicle at the moment, a motoring magazine has claimed.

According to What Car?, the discounts buyers are currently receiving are at their highest level for eight years and could get even bigger.

Research by the publication has shown dealers are knocking an average of £1,932 off the price of new cars.

This is some £244 more than buyers were typically saving at the beginning of the year and £974 more than in 2001, the magazine said.

What Car? editor Steven Fowler commented: "Even if you're not comfortable haggling on a price, it should be simple to get a brilliant bargain at the moment."

Buyers may find they can make even greater savings by buying the cheapest online car insurance they can find.
