Motor insurance: New speed camera on Muswell Hill

Thursday, 20 September 2007

Drivers wishing to keep their motor insurance premiums to a minimum may be interested to note that a new speed camera has been installed in Muswell Hill.

The Muswell Hill Journal reports that a "tricky" section of descent, where drivers often have difficulties staying within the limit, will now sport a speed trap.

Motorists caught speeding on this stretch of the road, despite its gradient will face the same fine and licence points as anywhere else in the UK. Acquiring points on one"s licence can also lead to a more expensive motor insurance quote when it comes to renewal.

Councillor Brian Haley, executive member for environment and conservation, told the publication: "We believe that speed cameras are effective ways not only of ensuring we catch those who break the law by speeding, but also of encouraging motorist to drive at a safe speed."

The London Safety Camera Partnership recently claimed that cameras have saved 1,500 lives in the capital over the last five years.
