Car insurance: Cameras on one side of road

Tuesday, 11 March 2008

New speed cameras are set to be put in place on one road in the Midlands after a campaign by locals to improve safety.

Two cameras are to be positioned on one side of Great Barr's Queslett Road, in Birmingham, but not on the other, because that is under the ownership of Sandwell and Walsall borough councils, reports the Birmingham Mail.

Councillor for Labour in Oscott Keith Linnecor claimed that it is about time the safety if the highway was improved after a number of accidents there.

"This road is a hazard to motorists and pedestrians - I just hope they sort this out sooner rather than later," he told the publication.

"We will keep campaigning for further cameras and safety measures along this road."

Birmingham city council confirmed that the devices are to be placed on the section "on the southbound carriageway".

In related news, a new speed limit has been enforced on the A77 in Scotland to lower accident numbers.

Drivers caught speeding may find that their car insurance premiums are negatively impacted upon.
