Motor insurance: New speed devices on the way
Tuesday, 12 February 2008
It is hoped that more measures will be put in place against speeding drivers after Rother Safety Partnership helped to buy new laser speed devices.
Commander Inspector Steve Brookman, from Sussex Police Roads Policing Department, stated that in the past the area has not received the correct amount of attention it deserves and that speeding has been a large issue, reports the Bexhill-on-Sea Observer.
But after the safety partnership carried out a series of tests locally, it was found that many drivers were going at twice the national speed limit.
"The equipment will be used sparingly and only at sites where it can be shown that traffic either moves too quickly generally or where the speed of the traffic at certain times causes anxiety amongst the community as a whole," Mr Brookman told the publication.
He added that the new methods have not been put in place simply as a way for local police officers to create money for the government.
This week it was reported by the Northwich Guardian that two speed cameras in Widnes were set ablaze by vandals recently.
Motorists caught speeding may find that their motor insurance premiums are negatively impacted upon.
