Car insurance: Drivers may be in danger in the dark

Wednesday, 05 November 2008

It is crucial to take more care when driving at night due to the increased likelihood of collisions and possible car insurance claims, it was suggested today.

The news, which may be important for car insurance customers, came from GEM Motoring Assist.

The group pointed out that in the dark, eyes can only pick up about a tenth of what they do in daylight, so drivers need to be smarter and pay more attention.

"Restricted vision means it takes longer for drivers to react at night and distances are harder to judge," said GEM Motoring Assist chief executive David Williams.

"Smart drivers will adjust their driving to deal with restrictions placed on their vision."

car insurance customers may also want to take some precautions this winter to minimise the chance of putting themselves in danger.

Ensuring there is anti-freeze and a breakdown kit in the boot could ready the driver in case an accident occurs.
