Norwich home insurance customers hit by spate of burglaries

Tuesday, 15 June 2010

Home insurance customers in Norwich are being urged to be more vigilant and increase the security of their property after a spate of burglaries in the city.

Since the beginning of June, six home insurance policyholders have been the victim of thefts, which have taken place while they were in their property.

Inspector Nigel Richards from the West Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "We are asking local people to ensure their doors and windows, especially on the ground floor of their properties, are firmly secured.

"People should also take note of anyone acting suspiciously in their area and contact police with any concerns."

Norfolk Constabulary said home insurance customers should get into the routine of checking to make sure their windows and doors are closed and locked whenever they leave their property.

Recently, West Yorkshire Police warned home insurance holders to be extra cautious over the World Cup period.

They said so-called World Cup Burglars may target home insurance customers who are away from their property watching the matches, the Bradford Telegraph and Argus reported.
