Car insurance customers in Cumbria are the subject of a crackdown by the local police force, which is aiming to make the roads safer.

Barrow Neighbourhood Policing Teams are tackling speeding crimes and anti-social motorists in the new scheme, after residents raised the issues at a recent public meeting.

Hotspot areas will be patrolled in the coming weeks and car insurance customers will be pulled over if they ignore road signs or park on the pavements.

Sergeant Paul Madden, a member of the local force, said: "Road safety is an issue that concerns everyone and through this operation, we hope to send a strong message to all motorists who are putting people's lives at risk".

He added that areas near local schools will be particularly targeted, where car insurance customers should be slowing down and not parking inappropriately.

Cockermouth Police have also revealed that they will be cracking down on car insurance customers in the area, saying that high visibility patrols will be moving around the area at key times.
