Wednesday, 13 January 2010
Insurance industry body the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has published new guidance for car insurance customers who shop for policies online.
With over two-thirds of motorists purchasing car insurance over the internet, the ABI's Good Practice Guide was developed alongside consumer experts Which? and a selection of insurance comparison sites to help people identify the right policy for their needs.
Nick Starling, the ABI's director of general insurance, pointed out that by shopping for a car insurance quotes people were able to enjoy "the best policy at the most competitive price".
"But the ease and speed of going online must be balanced with ensuring that people understand the terms, conditions and cover of the policies they are comparing," he noted.
Using the guidance, car insurance customers can receive help with reviewing key features of a particular policy, clarifying what features are being sold as add-ons and understanding the level of any voluntary or compulsory excess included in a policy.
