Travel insurance: Brits 'still like to head abroad'
Tuesday, 11 March 2008
British people enjoy heading overseas for their holidays and only the Germans adhere to this trend more, the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) has stated.
Such trips are popular, the firm contended, because of the prevalence of low-cost flights and the "well developed" package holiday industry.
It is therefore highly "tempting" for Brits to head abroad rather than stay on home shores, claimed director of the firm Robin Broke.
However, currency exchange rates mean that people could be dissuaded from destinations abroad, Mr Broke added.
"What puts people off going abroad is if the pound is not very strong against the currency in the country where people are going," he commented.
He also suggested that the current weakness of the pound against the euro means that this could have some sort of impact on the industry.
Closer to home in 2007, Blackpool Pleasure Beach saw 5,500,000 visitors, the ALVA revealed.
Travellers should ensure that they have adequate travel insurance before making journeys.
