Motorists in the St Helens area who do not have road tax or car insurance are running the risk of having their vehicle crushed by the police.

The authorities have started a clampdown on drivers flouting the law and officers from the Sutton neighbourhood team recently demonstrated in Four Acre Lane what will happen if people do not purchase car insurance and tax.

A Ford Escort, an off-road motorbike and a Suzuki Swift were all destroyed in an industrial-sized vehicle crusher and sergeant Andrew Rankine, from the team, said other motorists can expect the same unless they follow the laws of the road.

"Today has been all about sending a clear message to those people who think they are above the law and can get away with not paying their car tax or insurance like the rest of us," he stated.

He added that many people involved in criminal behaviour do not insure their vehicles and that taking these steps disrupts their illegal activities.ADNFCR-3010-ID-19630682-ADNFCR
