Car insurance: Private plates 'may be cheaper than expected'

Wednesday, 03 June 2009

Motorists who have recently saved some cash by purchasing budget car insurance may want to treat themselves to private plates.

DVLA Personalised Registrations is holding an auction at Wychwood Park in Crewe on Wednesday June 3rd and it claimed people might be surprised at what they can get for their money.

The group pointed out James Bond enthusiasts could get their hands on A007 SPY for about £900, while fans of the king may be able to walk away with ELV 115S for £400.

Organisers claimed: "The auction consists of an eclectic mix of personalised registrations to suit all car owners and motorists of all tastes."

The plate expected to fetch the most money on Wednesday is 3 O, after 1 O and 2 O sold at earlier sales for £210,242 and £142,249 respectively.

When making any changes to a vehicle, owners may be well advised to let their motor insurance provider know as soon as possible or they could risk invalidating their cover.
