Car insurance customers in the market for a new vehicle can snap up a bargain after a recent spate of recalled cars.

Used Car Expert magazine said that Toyota's recent problems with the accelerator mean that discounting occurs and people can get bargains.

Matthew Tumbridge, editor of the magazine, said: "There might be a small number of private owners who decide they want to get rid of their car because they have lost confidence in it. These people are bound to be more open to offers than normal."

He added that dealers will probably have the savviness to wait it out until confidence returns to the carmaker.

Car insurance customers considering this option should make sure the vehicle has been checked out and any repairs have been made.

Earlier this week Toyota recalled 8,500 Prius models in the UK after problems were discovered on the braking systems. The carmaker recalled 40,000 in total.ADNFCR-3010-ID-19612559-ADNFCR
