Car insurance: Rise in child accidents

Thursday, 11 October 2007

There has been a rise in the number of car accidents involving children in the Hatfield area, it has been revealed.

A spokesman at the East of England Ambulance Service, Gary Sanderson, told the Welwyn and Hatfield Times that it is about time that more was done to solve the growth in such incidents.

His comments were matched by those of Tony Welsh, Police Traffic Manager, who said that drivers have to show greater care, but also that all parties have a responsibility.

"Drivers must take care too but generally these things occur due to inattentiveness of the child. There are lots of these things that go on but not all get reported to the police," he told the paper.

He added that both schools and parents should both come together to teach children about road safety.

Drivers should ensure that they have valid car insurance, but may find that their premiums are affected if they are involved in collisions.

Earlier this week, Ealing police said that motorists caught with no insurance cover face getting their vehicles impounded.
