Motor insurance: 'Cameras have cut deaths'
Wednesday, 13 February 2008
A new report has suggested that the number of road deaths in Northumbria has been lessened because of the presence of speed cameras there.
Northumbria Road Safety Initiative's (NRSI's) release claimed that fatalities on the region's roads have dipped by 100 per cent in the past 12 months, reports the News Post leader.
And the partnership polled locals to find that 43 per cent of them believe there should be an even greater number of the speed devices positioned locally.
Project manager at the NRSI Ray King claimed that the organisation will look to adopt even more measures in its aim to improve road safety.
He told the publication: "No death or injury is acceptable and we will continue to work towards safer roads ... the public continue to support our aims and methods of achieving this."
Mr King added that motorists should give the roads their full attention at all times and that they should not speak on their mobile telephones whilst at the wheel.
Drivers caught speeding may find that their motor insurance premiums are negatively impacted upon.
It was recently reported that the Rother Safety Partnership has helped to purchase new laser speed cameras in Sussex.
