Motor insurance: Milnrow motorists a breath of fresh air

Wednesday, 26 September 2007

Drivers in Milnrow have been found to be compliant with the anti-pollution guidance brought in by the government.

Spot checks were conducted on 65 vehicles in the area by the Greater Manchester Cleaner Vehicles Campaign, with all of them showing that they complied with regulations, Rochdale Online reports.

Such drivers may be helping their wallet as well as the environment, as a number of motor insurance companies offer cheaper rates to those with more eco-friendly habits.

Councillor Wera Hobhouse, cabinet member for the environment and sustainability, expressed her delight that the 65 came through the tests unscathed, but also urged drivers to service their vehicles regularly to maintain the same high standards.

"Excessive smoke from cars affects our environment, air quality and even our health," she told the news source.

The Cleaner Vehicles Campaign is a joint initiative of Warrington and Greater Manchester local authorities.
