Car insurance: New crossing to improve road safety for Lincolnshire residents

Monday, 08 February 2010

A new pedestrian crossing on a busy Lincoln road will improve safety and reduce the number of accidents potentially resulting in car insurance claims, say residents.

People living near Rookery Lane have been campaigning for a crossing near the junction with Newark Road for many years, reports the Lincolnshire Echo.

Now the locals - some of whose family members have been in accidents with motorists coming around the blind corner - say they are ecstatic that their hard work has finally paid off.

A recent Boultham Moorland Community Travel Zone survey revealed that a crossing on Rookery Lane was residents' third-highest priority for the area.

In addition, two nearby crossings have also been upgraded.

City councillor Keith Weaver said he personally knew of three accidents that had occurred on Rookery Lane.

"After the years of campaigning, I'm delighted that the county council has installed this crossing," he said.

As part of a national measure to improve road safety, a hard-hitting THINK! campaign has been launched this month to remind car insurance customers of the risks of not wearing a seat belt.
