Motor insurance: Man asks for 'road safety improvement'

Friday, 05 October 2007

A Scottish crofter has stated that there should be greater safety measures in place after a number of car crashes outside his home.

Recently, a vehicle hit Dennis Johnstone's wall, the fourth time such an event has taken place over a three-year spell, reports the Press and Journal.

Mr Johnstone's property sits on a bend near Insch in Aberdeenshire and he stated that if road safety is not put further up the agenda, then there may be a fatal incident.

"I know from my own experiences and from what I observe while working in my fields that a combination of the road layout, water or ice on the road and excess speed makes the road extremely dangerous at this point," he told the paper.

He said that Aberdeenshire council should deal with the matter and straighten the bend out or put up new warning signs.

Motorists driving without care could find that their car insurance premiums are affected by any knocks and bumps.

In other car news, the Good Garage Scheme recently said that 61 per cent of drivers in the Reading area want garages to give them more information after carrying out work on their vehicles.
