FCO: Rugby fans must check travel insurance
Thursday, 01 September 2011
England fans looking to head across to New Zealand to watch the national squad in action at the Rugby World Cup should be careful on the roads.
This is according to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), which warned travel insurance policyholders that the country has more than twice the number of car crash fatalities every year compared to the UK.
The FCO advised people to make sure their policies allow them to drive while in New Zealand and that they prepare for very different road conditions.
Jeremy Browne, minister for consular affairs, said: "Whether fans are planning on taking part in adrenalin sports or hiring a vehicle for a road trip, I strongly recommend that they check the small print of their travel insurance to ensure they are covered for everything they want to do."
Recently, Defaqto revealed that the various travel policies available on the UK market differ significantly so it is imperative people check what protection it offers them while abroad.
