Motor insurance: Five safety stars for MINI Cooper

Alongside motor insurance, car safety can help bring peace of mind to drivers and the new Mini has shown it is very safe.

After running the Mini through head-on and side-on collision tests, the European New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) has awarded the iconic car the highest rating, five stars.

In both cases, the risk to passengers was adjudged to be very small.

Packed with six airbags, designated crumple zones and a very stiff passenger cell, the new Mini Cooper was awarded 13 of 16 points for deformation in a head-on collision and 16 out of 18 points for a side-on and pillar collision.

But perhaps the greatest safety innovation is the fact that the car electronically controls airbags and tension in the seatbelts after determining the direction and force of the impact with sensors.

The Mini also comes with a range of systems to help drivers get into accidents, thus helping them keep their car insurance premiums down.

Brake assist, cornering brake control and electronic brake force distribution come as standard with the Mini Cooper

NCAP also found that the Mini Cooper provided very good protection for children.
