Car insurance: Scrappage buyers 'need to be quick'

Wednesday, 02 September 2009

Drivers expecting to renew their car insurance in the coming months after buying a new auto may want to act sooner rather than later, if they want to take advantage of the government's cash for bangers scheme, it has been suggested.

According to, people who put off purchasing their next vehicle could end up missing out on the financial incentive on offer.

The new and used car retailer explained the £300 million set aside for the scrappage scheme could run out as early as October.

Marketing manager Katie Armitage pointed out the initiative had resulted in July seeing a rise in sales of autos straight off the production line for the first time in 12 months.

She stated: "With the new plate being introduced in September and limited scrappage funds available, the time has never been better to search for a new car."

Meanwhile, drivers who save money through the scrappage scheme may be able to reduce costs further by searching online for budget motor insurance.
