Car insurance: Scrappage scheme extended

Tuesday, 29 September 2009

Auto buyers who already know where to go for the best deals on budget car insurance may find an extension to the scrappage scheme can help them save even more money.

The government has announced it will be providing enough additional funding to cover incentives towards an extra 100,000 vehicles.

In total, the country's leaders have agreed to set aside £400 million for the programme.

So far, some 227,750 cars and vans have been ordered through the scheme.

Business secretary Lord Peter Mandelson said the government was responding to the concerns of vehicle producers.

However, he added: "This is not a blank cheque to the auto manufacturers, but recognition that there is still a short-term challenge to boost demand and confidence in the sector."

Meanwhile, drivers who manage to get a great deal on a new car by taking advantage of the initiative may find they can give their bank balance an even bigger boost by searching for low cost motor insurance online.
