Car insurance: Scrappage scheme results in "upsurge" in Volvo sales

Friday, 19 June 2009

The number of people searching for Volvo car insurance policies may have increased over recent weeks as a result of the scrappage scheme, if the manufacturer's comments are anything to go by.

According to the company, it has experienced an "upsurge" in enquiries since the cash for bangers initiative was introduced.

Spokesman Nick Connor said: "The scheme has been a much welcome boost to our sales, as well as to the industry as a whole and we are working hard for this success to continue."

In the space of a month, Volvo shifted 1,234 cars to participants in the programme.

The manufacturer pointed out the C30 SportsCoupe had proved the most popular with such buyers, accounting for 679 of the autos ordered.

People who opt for the DRIVe version of the vehicle with Start/Stop technology will find it boasts fuel economy of 72.4 mpg and CO2 emissions of 104 g/km.

As a result, owners may save money at the pump and will qualify for annual road tax of £35.

Motorists who buy the model to reduce outgoings may find they can cut costs further by searching for the cheapest online car insurance.
