Car insurance: Security precautions such as alarms may lower premiums
Wednesday, 27 January 2010
Security precautions such as having a garage and an alarm system could benefit car insurance customers with lower premiums, says the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).
In particular, Neil Greig, director of policy and research at the IAM, recommended a Thatcham alarm for more expensive car models, as it was the research body that sets the standard for car alarms.
For those hoping to get the cheapest car insurance possible, Mr Greig also advises looking for a vehicle in a lower insurance bracket when buying a new car.
Though it may sound obvious, Mr Greig also recommended taking steps to make a car less easy to steal.
Quarterly crime figures recently released by the Home Office revealed Yorkshire and Lancashire as the top two hotspots for vehicle crime.
