Sir Stirling Moss for car fest
Friday, 06 April 2012
Sir Stirling Moss is to visit the Donington Historic Festival, it has been announced.
Car insurance holders and other car enthusiasts will be able to watch him drive a Jaguar C-Type which he once used to prevail in a race.
Meanwhile, the event will also involve appearances from many other classic cars, the festival says.
Moss, now in his eighties, handled the car while navigating the 1952 Reims Grand Prix, in which he triumphed.
"No doubt it will be a less demanding day for Sir Stirling than it was at Reims in 1952," said the festival, "when the heat was so intense and the competition so fierce that he was near to collapsing after taking the chequered flag".
Visitors will be able to get Moss's autograph at the occasion.
According to the festival's announcement, Sir Stirling's Grand Prix success marked the debut-win of a vehicle with disc-breaks.
The event takes place on May 6th.
