The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is calling on
travel insurance customers to bear in mind the dangers of excessive boozing at ski resorts.
Those hitting the slopes in France, Switzerland and Italy in recent weeks may have noticed new posters urging them not to abuse alcohol.
According to the FCO, a new environment, cold and high altitudes can "heighten effects of alcohol drinking and lead to accidents and other mishaps".
Airports, bars, restaurants and chalets are displaying posters with the slogan "Don't catch your death". The campaign is being supported by tourist offices and rescue services.
For travellers to France, the FCO "strongly" recommends buying comprehensive travel insurance before setting off and remembering to get cover for potentially dangerous activities such as skiing.
swiftcover.com recommend adding winter sports cover to your travel insurance for extra peace of mind.
